INFORMAL TALKS with Yulia Marushevska & Artem Sytnyk “Fighting High-Level Corruption in U

British-Ukrainian Aid is inviting you to the first event in our Informal Talks series – an informal talk with the representatives of the new generation of Ukrainian activists fighting corruption in Ukraine. This event is supported by the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (London branch).

Artem Sytnyk is the Director of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of

Ukraine (NABU) often described as the man taking on Ukraine’s most powerful politicians. NABU has come under sustained attack in recent months, with Parliament drafting legislation, later dropped. Investigation of corruption in the State Migration Service led to the open conflict with the Prosecutor General’s Office in Kyiv and unprecedented disclosure of NABU’s undercover officers.

Yulia Marushevska is a Ukrainian activist and civil servant who became prominent in Ukraine’s 2014 uprising and was later appointed as the head of customs at the Black Sea port of Odessa to work on a major project to reform the corruption-plagued customs of Odesa. The reform-minded Marushevska has had a long-running conflict with State Fiscal Service Head Roman Nasirov who was accused earlier of embezzling around 59 million pounds. Yulia is determined to create a true democracy in her country, develop methods of fighting entrenched corruption and anti-democratic practices.

The venue is conveniently located in central London; the closest tube stations are Shepherd’s Bush and Holland Park. The bar and the kitchen serving traditional Ukrainian cuisine will be open during the event.
