Remembrance service took place at The Cathedral Church of the Holy Transfiguration, 1a Newton Avenue, Acton, London, England, W3 8AJ on Saturday, 22 November 2014.

The term Holodomor refers specifically to the brutal famine artificially imposed by Stalin’s regime on Soviet Ukraine in 1932-33. In fact, the genocide continued for several more years and was accompanied by some further destruction of Ukraine’s political leadership, the resettlement of Ukraine’s depopulated areas with other ethnic groups, the prosecution of those who dared to speak of the famine publicly, and the consistent blatant denial of famine by the Soviet regime.

The exact number of deaths is hard to establish, due to the lack of records, but the numbers increase significantly when the deaths in Kuban region, heavily populated by Ukrainians, are also taken into account. According to the decision made by Kyiv Appellation Court, the demographic losses due to the famine amounted to 10 million, with 3.9 million famine deaths, and a 6.1 million birth deficit.
