British-Ukrainian Aid took part in the Spirit of Ukraine Festival filled with arts, crafts, children’s activities, musicians, choirs and acrobatic dancing. The event showcased distinctive and treasured Ukrainian folklore performed by CYM dance ensembles Hoverla from Derby, Sokil from Stockport, London and Waltham Cross CYM dance troupes and singers, as well as the Mirage Ukrainian singing quartet and Bandura trio Zhayvir. Festival participants had a chance to visit stalls with Ukrainian embroidered clothing, vinok headresses, popular and classic Ukrainian music CDs, hand carved and china ornaments, handmade jewellery, Ukrainian football memorabilia and clothing. Visitors were exceptionally lucky to meet Ukrainian writer Maria Dziedzan and acquire signed copies of her books. The festival’s highlights included delicious Ukrainian food: varenyky, holubtsy and cakes were extremely popular as usual! We would like to thank the organisers – Association of Ukrainians Walham Cross Branch & Friends of Forty Hall Park – for the opportunity to introduce Ukraine’s wonderful people and traditions to the UK!
