Lloyd Webber - Rutter - Chilcott - Tarney

Ukrainian Soprano Maryana Bodnar will be joined by the Hampshire County Youth Choir for a programme of carols and choir music, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, and The Wise Men and the Star, by Winchester based composer Oliver Tarney. What Child is This Ukrainian Trad. A Bright Star Appeared in the Sky With audience carols: O Come, All Ye Faithful O Come, O Come Emmanuel British-Ukrainian Aid Christmas Appeal With their Christmas Appeal, British-Ukrainian Aid are raising funds to supply portable generators to Ukraine helping hospitals, orphanages, schools and shelters get through a bitterly cold winter when power fails and electricity turns off. This will compliment their initial appeal to secure donations to provide items for immediate emergency, medical supplies, first aid kits, transportation & critical services. Maryana Bodnar Maryana studied singing in Rome at the Conservatory St.Cecilia, where her first teachers were Sara Mingardo (baroque singing), and Valentina Maraffa (vocal technique); she subsequently studied in Vienna, were she studied with Silvia Saavedra-Edelman. She has participated in a number of master-classes, receiving tutoring from Edda Moser, Mariella Devia, and Daniella Dessì, Ines Salazar, Ewa Iżykowska, and Renzo Giacchier. She has performed in concerts, solo recitals and lyric opera productions in Austria, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Latvia and Malta, and has won a number of musical awards and scholarships along the way.

Since 2018, Maryana has been a soloist, actress and singer at the National Operetta of Ukraine, where she has performed leading roles in musicals and operettas: Morticia Addams (Lippa, The Addams Family), Feodora Palinska (Kalman, Die Zirkusprinzessin), Suzanne (Offenbach, Un mari a la porte), Moskalytsia (Matios, Moskalytsia), Manja, young gypsy (Kalman, Grafin Mariza), Sweet Sue (Wilder, Some like it hot.), Prophetess (Matyas, Dorian Gray), Venticelli and Papagena (Shaffer, Amadeus).

Since the beginning of the War in Ukraine in February 2022, Maryana has travelled through different countries in Europe, participating in charity and benefit concerts for Ukraine. She has now found accommodation in London and studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Tom Jesty - Accompanist in Residence & WA Song Series Co-Artistic Director Tom is currently studying for a masters in piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. At the Guildhall Tom has played in recitals of Spanish song, music from the Great American Songbook, songs by contemporary composer Stephen Hough, and solo and vocal repertoire by Benjamin Britten. Tom has studied with Carole Presland, Hamish Milne, Ian Fountain, Pamela Lidiard, and Iain Burnside.

Tom is a former Head Quirister of Winchester College Chapel Choir and winner of BBC Radio 2 Choirboy of the Year. Prior to moving to London, Tom worked as a piano teacher and accompanist in Winchester, which included accompanying for the Wessex Solo Singers Courses, run by Lynton Atkinson, and the Cratoule Summer Singing School. He also accompanies for the Hampshire Youth Choirs, run by the Hampshire Music Service, and for the City Chamber Choir in London, directed by Stephen Jones.

Hampshire County Youth Choirs The Hampshire County Youth Choirs are run by Hampshire Music Service with the aim to provide choral opportunities for singers of all ages from across the county. The HCYC pyramid is made up of five choirs - Junior , Training, Show, Chamber and headed up by our Youth Choir. Each group has a different focus and offers experience in varied elements of the choral tradition and performance.
